1 Kings 3:3 - Additional Comments
Normally sacrifices in the high places was to a false God, but they had to place to sacrifice to God, so Solomon would sacrifice to God in the high places. He culminated it with the sacrifice of 1000 burnt offerings at Gibeon, the great high place (vs 4). God must have been pleased with the sacrifices, because at Gibeon is where God appeared to Solomon in a dream (3:5-15), asked Solomon what he wished for (3:5), and granted his wish for wisdom (3:12), plus additionally, what Solomon did not ask for, riches and honor above anyone else during his reign (3:13). He also gave the promise of a long life, but with a condition - that Solomon would walk in the ways of God (3:14).
