These are similar words to what Eli had already heard before from another (unnamed) prophet - 2:27-36.
When someone reproves you, tells you of something you need to work on, tells you of a flaw in your character or actions, how do you react? Would you agree that the poorer someone's self-image, the less they are to accepting criticism? They feel it is just one more thing wrong with them. And the reverse, the stronger a person's self-image, the better they can accept criticism. They are confident with who they are, and will examine criticism to see if it is true and how they can improve.
How do you take criticism? How do you react when your spouse points something out you should change? How do you react when others at work tell you?
