2 Samuel 1:1 - Additional Comments
David's reign lasts for about 40 years.
It was about this time that David began writing his Psalms.
At this time the book of First Samuel ends its 115-year history, and the book of Second Samuel begins, around 1055 B.C. or 1010 B.C.
The authors of this book are unknown, but it was probably written by prophets.
There are two main sections, Davideign over Judah (chapters 1 through 4), and Davideign over all Isreal (chapters 5 through 24).
The Amalekites had attacked Ziklag and burned it (1 Sam 30:1), although they had not killed anyone from the town - they had taken them into captivity. David pursued the Amalekites and had utterly defeated them (1 Sam 30:17-18), and recovered his 2 wives from them. He had restored the captives back to their homes in Ziklag.
At the same time, Saul's arrmy had been defeated by the Philistines.
