Galatians 2:12 - Additional Comments

James at this time was the leader of the Jerusalem church. These men were actually coming from James' church, that is, the Jerusalem church.
A Palestinian Jew would not normally enter the house of a Gentile, much less eat with him. But Peter had learned not to call unclean what God had declared clean (Acts 10). And in that same passage Cornelius and his household, who were all Gentiles were converted with the help of Peter.
Interesting how God spoke directly to Peter (in Acts 10) that the gospel is also for the Gentiles, yet he fell back to the hypocrisy. Peer pressure is tough.
As Barnabas is carried away into Peter's hypocrisy, Peter is carried away in fear of other Jewish Christians. Both probably knew what was right, but were influenced away from that. Even the best of men can fall to peer pressure or subtle misleadings.
Note the responsibility of Christian leaders, and how great is their influence -- others will follow, even if going the wrong way.
Do we in our church ever feel like there are people in the church we cannot dine with, because of our differences? May it never be.
