Hebrews 12:17

For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.

"It" refers to the birthright, not the repentance. Esau wasn't really sorry for what he did, merely the results of it. How often we, like Esau, sacrifice long term happiness for a short term pleasure. And how often, when the pleasure ends, we suffer the consequences for it. Don't do it.
