Jeremiah 2:25

Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

They were tempted to follow other gods, and got to a point where they felt there was no more hope, that they had no choice but to give in to sin.
Sometimes in your life you may feel this way, that you become to far gone to return, that the allure of sin and your entrenchment is too deep, but it NEVER is too late, and there is ALWAYS a way to escape (1 Cor 10:13). Open your eyes, and see the road of escape God has paved for you.
