Here is the reason for the siege, the calamity of Judah, the soon to be downfall of Judah - they have not obeyed (see details is vss 30-35). What a contrast we see in Jeremiah's immediate obedience (vs 9) and what the nation of Judah has done for some time in not obeying. The fall is imminent, for the siege mounds (ramps) are already in place (vs 24). Judah falls in about a year.
