John 11:10

But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

But if anyone walks about in the night, he does stumble, because there is no light in him [the light is lacking to him].

If we walk in the darkness (without Christ), we stumble -- we are unable to know which path to choose, and often choose the wrong one.
