John 11:3 - Additional Comments

Interesting that they mention not Mary and Martha's love for Lazarus, but Jesus' love for him. It wasn't, "whom we love", but "whom You love". Also note that even though Jesus had a special affection for Lazarus, Lazarus still got sick. Any of us may have loved ones who get sick, regardless of the strength of our faith.
We need to be careful not to judge another's relationship with God based on their circumstances. We see that with Lazarus, as we did with Job. See 1 Cor 4:5.
Note that word was sent to Jesus that Lazarus was sick, not dead.
Mary and Martha did not travel to get Jesus, but sent a messenger.
