John 3:2 - Additional Comments

By coming at night, this implies he came secretly, for the others on the Sanhedrin would probably not taken kindly to his seeking after Jesus.
Nicodemus must have come in earnest, because he came right to the point.
He admits Jesus must be from God, because of the miracles. I don't believe he viewed Jesus as the Messiah, but it seems he viewed Jesus as an authentic prophet of God. So, he came to find wisdom. He called Jesus "Rabbi", meaning teacher. He came to Jesus as a student. 'Rabbi" also signified a great man, for it was a term of honor.
Nicodemus has every reason not to believe the miracles were real, and that Jesus was from God, but he did.
When he came to Jesus, Nicodemus didn't come to talk about politics or theology, but about his own soul. He came humble, seeking, not with an arrogant knowledge.
Jesus' position as Rabbi was not by His own study and skill, but given to Him by God.
