What an incredible miracle this was. His body had never functionally been able to see, so this was not a restoration of his body, but a transformation into a form that had not existed before. It is difficult to imagine physically how the transformation took place. God has control over matter, and can transform it at His will. This is why we should never limit what God can do by what we know is possible. This also shows God has the power to transform in the most extreme situations.
Jesus is the light of the world (Daniel 2:22, John 8:12), and hell is the place of darkness (Matt 8:12). Light to us is uplifting, refreshing, energizing, life-giving. How sad then that this man has lived his entire life in darkness, now knowing the light except by its warmth. How much more appreciative he must have been when healed, not just to be able to see, but to now to know light! In the same way, how it is when a person who has been in spiritual darkness finally see the light of Jesus - what a new world is opened to him.
