But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

Luke 1:13 - Additional Comments

Since Elizabeth was past her child bearing years (verse 7), I expect Zacharias no longer prayed for her to have a child. So, his prayer that was answered was probably a prayer from long ago, but now in God's perfect timing - John couldn't have come before Jesus, but needed to be at the same time.
