Jerusalem, one of the most troubled cities in the world, could have had peace, if only those who ruled it knew. The rejection of God was the acceptance of trouble, yet they did not know. God certainly, through the prophets, tried to make it clear to them. Not only would it have given them peace on earth, it also would have secured the eternal destiny.
If the people had known, they too would have wept, instead of rejoicing. What a unique view Jesus had of the events, past, present, and future, that the people did not. May we have the eyes of God to see things as He sees them, not as the world does.
Note who was responsible for their success or failure - they were. God said destruction or peace awaits you, depending on your decisions. Today, trouble or peace awaits us as we make many of our decisions in life. We need to not blame God, for even though God brings the trouble or peace, much of it is a result of the choices we make.
