And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God.

Luke 23:35 - Additional Comments
They assumed that Jesus would have wanted to save Himself. That was far from the truth. If He had wanted to, He could have saved Himself, but His desire was for better things. In the same way, we need to be careful against making the same error they did, of thinking that things of ease are always the best. The bottom line is that things for the kingdom are always the best. God's passion is for relationships with Him, not ease on earth.
Here it is the Jewish leaders mocking Jesus, and in vs 37 it is the soldiers. In vs 39 it is one of the theives on the crosses.
