Notice anything significant about the time these ancestors of Jesus lived? Those mentioned in this verse probably lived during the time of captivity in Egypt, before Moses liberated them. Those in verse 4 or 5 were probably contemporaries of Moses, and travelled with him through the wilderness.
It is remarkable that the Jews kept records of their lineage throughout their captivity in Egypt, and (vs 11) during their captivity by the Babylonians.
