Jesus marveled?! I don't suppose he really caught Jesus off guard, but He was impressed at the faith of the centurion. Sadly, Jesus marveled because this faith was rare, as none like it could be found in Israel. Alas, if we could only have this faith! This man is a hero! Yes, this is the faith God wants us to have! (James 1:5 encourages to pray for more wisdom; in the same way we should pray for more faith.)
Note that this was a centurion, a member of the Roman guard. God reserves people in all places and walks of life whose hearts are given to Him.
