Numbers 27:17 - Additional Comments
We see this same compassion for the sheep that Moses had later in Jesus (Matt 9:36).
Moses knows full well what happens to the people when the shepherd is not there to guide them. He experienced this times in the wilderness, when he was not present (Exo 32:1-7). This also shows the need to be in church, to have regular Christian leadership in your life (Heb 10:24-25). What choices would you make without regular fellowship? Would you be strong or weak? What impact does attending church have on you? Does it have an impact?
Not only do the sheep need a shepherd, but the need a GODLY shepherd. If the shepherd does not properly take care of the sheep, they become exposed to the enemy and to hunger. That is why it is important to be in a church with godly leadership. It is very difficult to stand on your own. That is also why leaders need accountability. They, while being a shepherd, are also sheep, and need a shepherd -- and without one, can be exposed to the enemy and to hunger.
