Philippians 1:13

So that my bonds in Christ are manifest in all the palace, and in all other places;

Everyone knew of Christ from Paul's preaching, and why Paul felt he was there -- these were chains for Christ. The soldiers that guarded him were the Palace guard (the Praetorian guard). Over 5000 men served in this military unit. Some of them were converted -- see 4:22.
