Psalm 116:12 - Additional Comments

He is so thankful for all God has done, he wants to do something for God in return. (Vs 13) He determines to continue to call out to God, and (vs 14) to do what he told God he would do.
Do you know what God wants you to be doing? You may not have made a vow, but still, you've heard God's voice of what you need to be doing. 1 Thess 5:18 - in everything give thanks. Let us give thanks the way the author did - go to God, and do what He wants you to be doing.
It might be overwhelming trying to do all God wants for you. Eat the elephant one bite at a time. Select 2 things to do this week that God wants you to do - one for your relationship with Him, and one for someone else. Say it in your mind. "God wants me to do ..., and by His grace this week I will do..."
Tell me stories of selfless things others have done for you. Wow, they meant a lot - you remember them. Here's a few ideas of things to do for others:
* Deliver food to someone else, impromptu, no reason.
* Call someone who needs it.
* Buy something for someone else. No special occasion.
* Offer to help in the nursery or children's classes.
* Write a note to someone, telling them something you appreciate about them. Big gains on this one.
* Tell someone you will pray for them. Do it regularly. Expect great things. Check up with them to see what God is doing in their life.
* Babysit for other families. Call them, tell them to pick an evening. Do it also for a weekend!
* Visit or call the lonely (like single elderly).
* Find out a chore someone has planned, and go help them with it.
First word of warning - if someone wants to do something for you, let them.
Second word of warning - pray that you do things for others for the right reasons. Be careful that you don't do something for others because either they will return the favor, or even possibly just thank you. They should thank you, but what if they don't? Your gift to them should be free from expectation or wanting something in return. That is a challenge for all of us. Bottom line is may we give to others for the right reasons. Be careful to avoid a barter system.
