Revelation consists of a series of visions about Jesus Christ. The book reveals Jesus. After describing the situations of the seven churches in chapters 1-3, John turned his attention to the first vision (4:1). He lifted the readers from turmoil and trouble of earth to the victorious throne room of heaven.
God is seen holding a scroll which has seven seals binding it. The scroll contains a record of the judgments that must fall on the earth before the Lord Jesus can set up His kingdom.
Many have called this scroll "The title deed to the earth". It had seven seals. Romans sealed their wills with seven seals to prevent unauthorized entry. Hebrew title deeds required a minimum of three witnesses and three separate seals, with more important transactions requiring more witnesses and seals.
