Romans 7:24 - Additional Comments

This passage is filled with passion. Paul shows us the extreme turmoil within him, the battle the blazes inside of him.
It seems that no one knew more Scripture than Paul, nor had a closer walk with God than Paul, yet he still struggled with sin. The more we know Scripture, and the closer our walk with God, the easier our battle with sin, and the less we sin, but we can never avoid the war - it will always be there.
Do you see this same intense struggle within you? I expect most Christians do not, because they have become comfortable with their sin, and have not learned to see it and hate it as God does. Interesting that the fact that Paul had this intense struggle within him shows tremendous spiritual maturity and closeness to God!
eed, an honest and humble acknowledgment of the hopeless evil of our flesh, even after the new birth, is the first step to holiness. To speak quite plainly, some of us are not leading holy lives for the simple reason that we have too high an opinion of ourselves.uhn R. W. Stott
