1 Chronicles 1:1 - Additional Comments

The 12 preceding books of the Bible tell the story of the beginning of mankind through the Hebrew nation in captivity. These 2 books of Chronicles retell the same story and end at the same point. They are a recapitulation of all that has gone before, with special attention to the reign of David, Solomon, and subsequent kings of Judah.
1 Chronicles is, in part, the same as 2 Samuel. It has to do with the story of David, prefaced with 9 chapters of genealogy, which cover from Adam to the Jews' return from captivity.
1 and 2 Chronicles, Ezra, and Nehemiah were, originally, one series of works. Jewish tradition had it that Ezra with the author. The author had access to journals, diaries, and public records that are not now known, along with access to the previous Old Testament books.
