1 Samuel 16:9 - Additional Comments

Samuel did not know yet who God would select. As God does with us, as we are faithful, He shows us the next step, and typically never the longer range plans. This moves us to total trust. Just as in a suspenseful movie, you are living every emotion with the characters, not knowing what will happen. But, once you know, you are not drawn in as much. If we knew the outcome of our life, where is the faith? But then again, we also may choose different paths than the ones God has specifically set out for us - He wants our character, and we just want ease.
Note that even though God was only giving Samuel the next step each time, Samuel still went, trusting God would at each step show the next one, and provide along the way.
Has God given you any indication of what He wants you to do? Spend a few minutes and think about what He has been asking you to do. This could be a change in your life, or something for others. Has God been telling you something, and you are fighting it? (Read the story of Jonah!) Tell someone else what God wants you to do, or else just ignore it (and shut out God's influence through you!)
What is God's primary command for us today? Go and make disciples. And what is His promise? That Jesus will be with us along the way (Matt 28:19-20).
