1 Samuel 18:8

And Saul was very wroth, and the saying displeased him; and he said, They have ascribed unto David ten thousands, and to me they have ascribed but thousands: and what can he have more but the kingdom?

This is the beginning of the discord between Saul and David.
Just like David's brothers did not like him getting promoted instead of them, here we find Saul sinning in the same way, hating that someone else has success instead of themself. May we rejoice when others succeed, for the success has already happened, it honors God, it shows love to the person, and it ultimately gives you peace instead of bitterness.
Little did Saul know that David was on his way to supplanting Saul and getting the kingdom.
