Kirhath Jearim was about 9 miles northeast of Beth Shemesh.
Even the Israelites did not want the ark because of the problems it caused. The real problem was disobedience, not the ark! Their hearts still had not changed. They lost out, because of their own folly, what could have been a huge blessing. God was trying to say something to them but they totally misunderstood what He was saying. God judges those who disobey, so stop disobeying! Jer 25:6 says "do not provoke Me to anger with the works of your hands; and I will not harm you".
