1 Timothy 5:5 - Additional Comments

Which widows are "really a widow"? They are the ones who are "left alone". See also vs 16. These are widows in need who have no family to take care of them. See vs 8. We are compelled by God to take care of widows who have no others to care for them.
In Jer 49:11 widows are encouraged to trust in God. Here we see her trusting in God, with prayers day and night. So much of the work of Christ is sustained by the regular prayers of saintly widows. Thank God for them!
Some widows may think when their husband dies that their life is essentially over. But what we see here is that a significant new purpose for their life has begun, in regular prayers for the saints.
