1 Timothy 5:8 - Additional Comments

James 1:27 tells us that taking care of widows is pure and undefiled religion, and here we see that if you do not take care of the widows in your family, you have denied the faith (i.e. it became obvious you are not a Christian - ), and are worse than an unbeliever.
This is one way of honoring your parents, by taking care of them in their old age. This not only includes their physical needs, but also their emotional needs. Like the song "The Cats in the Cradle", when a child leaves the nest, the need of the child for emotional support from the parent slowly turns so the parent has more of a need of emotional support from the child. Do you have a parent or parents who you not been considering their emotional need for your friendship and honoring?
Think about writing a tribute to your parents if they are still alive. Write a tribute for each one. First, prepare your heart by seeing them as Christ sees them. Then, write down your memories, and all they did right. Finish by organizing it and presenting it to them. You will bless them more than you can imagine.
