2 Kings 4:2 - Additional Comments

Note Elisha was ready to immediately respond with kindness. He did not have to think about it.
Elisha did not say "Be comforted" -- he gave her real help. Also, he did not give her a small token gift to ease his conscience -- he met her real need.
Also, instead of just a gift, he helped her best by using her own efforts to make it happen, teaching her the value of her own efforts.
Anything she had may have been used to pay her debts, but it was not enough. She was in dire straits because of their debt. Except for unusual circumstances, is it okay to go into debt? The borrower becomes the lender's slave (Prov 22:7). But we are to lend freely (Matt 5:42). Yet in the next verse she is asked to borrow containers for the oil.
This teaches us to make the best of what we have. Don't ever belittle what God has given you, for any and all can be used for you and for His glory.
