2 Peter 1:1 - Additional Comments

Background
* Written by Peter from prison in Rome, near his death. That is why there is an urgency in his message.
Note that Peter refers to himself as both servant and apostle, give a good balance as to his position. He neither presents himself very low or very high. Humility is having a view of yourself as God does, thinking neither too much or too little of yourself.
John 12:26 says that servants of Christ:
1. will be with Christ wherever He is
2. will be honored by God
Oh, what a grand thing to be a servant of Christ.
Also, this verse says this book is to those of a common faith, a faith "of the same kind." That is what bonds Christians. This is what defines who are in Christ, who have His righteousness. This is the faith in which we live, which gives us the excellent life, and which purifies us, both in actions and in the sight of God.
