2 Thessalonians 3:6 - The Message

Our orders—backed up by the Master, Jesus—are to refuse to have anything to do with those among you who are lazy and refuse to work the way we taught you. Don’t permit them to freeload on the rest. We showed you how to pull your weight when we were with you, so get on with it. We didn’t sit around on our hands expecting others to take care of us. In fact, we worked our fingers to the bone, up half the night moonlighting so you wouldn’t be burdened with taking care of us. And it wasn’t because we didn’t have a right to your support; we did. We simply wanted to provide an example of diligence, hoping it would prove contagious.

2 Thessalonians 3:6 - Additional Comments

See also verses 14-15. Who should we avoid spending time with, and why? Any believer who is disorderly and is doing things unbecoming to Christ. Also, those who disobey the words that Paul has laid down in this letter. This person is not an enemy, but should be counseled/reproved as a brother. See notes on Gal 6:1.
Matt 18:15-17 - if a brother sins against you, this gives progressive steps for reproof; and if the brother continues to reject the reproof, treat him as a heathen and a sinner
Romans 16:17 - avoid people who cause divisions and offenses against the proper Christianity doctrine
1 Cor 5:11-13 - don't keep company or even eat with a Christian who is involved in sin or practicing evil
1 Tim 6:3-5 - withdraw yourself from anyone who teaches contrary to Jesus' teaching, who "is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain."
2 Tim 3:2-5 - turn away from those who are involved in these sins (see the list of sins in that passage)
3 John 1:9-11 - the opposite is those who forbid receiving those who are leaders of the faith and also forbids those who wish to receive them, for forbidding them is evil
