Ephesians 4:29 - Additional Comments
'Corrupt" can be unwholesome, rotten, diseased, worthless.
"Edification" is building up - it is a term used in architecture, for the construction of a building.
How do you build? With words that give grace to those who hear.
What an odd process we use to those around us - they are God's building, and God is working to build them up, and as God is building them up, we, with our words, are taking a chisel to his workmanship, and destroy pieces of what He is doing. Every time we say a corrupt word, especially to family members, we are taking a chisel into God's building, damaging the work He is doing.
What comes out of our mouth that is diseased? First, you can find many many diseased words on the Internet. Angry, bitter, bigoted, complaining, negative, cynical, etc. It doesn't have to be spoken words, but it can be written. The term is called a "flame". We find it much easier to send flames with written word than in person - it's safer. What I find amazing is that the mouth (spoken or written) speaks from that which fills the heart. The written word just makes it easier to see into the heart, since those who speak don't have to be punished, as they would in person.
So, the easiest place to express diseased words is in written form. Oddly, the next is against those you would fight to the death to protect - your family. We find it so easy to send diseased words at those in our family, those we love the most, those closest to us.
