When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry;

Modecai, following God in every he knows possible, now faces seeming disaster for following God. I bet the circumstances didn't make sense at this point! But this fit perfectly into God's plan, so He could be glorified. We must remain confident that God is working all things together for good to those who love Him (Rom 8:28).
