Esther 4:14

For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?

Esther 4:14 - Additional Comments

Even though God is not directly mentioned, Esther and Mordecai's faith in God is obvious. In this verse he mentions what is obviously God's plan for Esther, and in verse 16 prayer would accompany the fasting Esther suggests.
Mordecai was completely confident that somehow, some way, God would take care of the Jews, based on His promises. He says God will deliver them eventually, even if not through Esther.
It turns out Mordecai was right - God did bring her to the kingdom for a high purpose. God also has a high purpose for each of us. He has placed you where you are at "for such a time as this". Watch how Esther responded (5:1). How will you respond to God's call as He places you in a specific situation for His purpose?
This reminds me of the book "In His Steps", by Charles Sheldon. This is where "What Would Jesus Do?" came from. In the book, deeply shaken by the apprearance of a mysterious stranger in town and his impassioned pleas for the poor and downtrodden, the minister and five parishoners begin a year-long experience in Christianity. Each has resolved to conduct his life according to the precepts of Christ, applying His behavior to their own lives. It transforms the town.
This is what Mordecai did when he jeopardizes the nation of the Jews by refusing to succumb to idolatry, and what Esther did by fasting and going before the king on behalf of the Jews.
