Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

Exodus 18:21 - Additional Comments

The judges, the leaders, were to be men who not only feared God and didn't desire the things of others, but these men were to be known as men of truth, without deception and deceit. They could be trusted. And they were followers of the truth, God's truth. One cannot speak truth unless one knows what truth is. If a person does not know God, does not know His truth, he cannot speak the truth, for he follows the devil, the father of lies (John 8:44).
