This is the sixth commandment. We are not to kill others unjustly. This is one of the most basic of laws. It was strongly enforced in the laws given to Noah and his sons - Gen 9:5-6. It does not forbid killing in lawful war, or in our own necessary defense, nor when the government requires offenders be put to death; for these things help preserve life.
