Acacia is a family of trees, with many names. Acacia wood is prized for its beautiful patterns and colors (a lot of orange and red). It is found on higher elevations, and stands over 70 feet in height.
The comon name for some acacias is wattle. Wattles are native to Australia and they are all in the family of acacia species. Today it is known as Koa wood in Hawaii. Koa is the largest of the native trees of Hawaii.
