Since this is the kind of life we have chosen, the life of the Spirit, let us make sure that we do not just hold it as an idea in our heads or a sentiment in our hearts, but work out its implications in every detail of our lives. That means we will not compare ourselves with each other as if one of us were better and another worse. We have far more interesting things to do with our lives. Each of us is an original.

Galatians 5:25 - Additional Comments

We are to be "led by the Spirit" (5:18), "walking by the Spirit" (5:16,25), "bearing the fruit of the Spirit" (5:22).
How do we do this? How does one go about being "filled by the Spirit" (Eph 5:18)? How do you become "controlled" by the Spirit? If you are being controlled by the Spirit, why do you still sin?
God opens the door and provides the path (1 Cor 10:13), but we have a choice to make. His Spirit tells our Spirit which path to take. When we decide to choose the right path, God's power enables our spirit to go down the right path. But His Spirit does not force us to make a certain choice, so in that sense we are not "controlled" by the Spirit. We are controlled by the Spirit when our heart is knit with God's to the point that when the Spirit speaks, we respond. The only way to get there is to have a relationship with God where you listen, ask, listen, and respond. Be filled is allowing the Spirit to permeate everything you do. You have a choice, let Him speak or build a wall where you shut up His voice. What have you been doing lately?
