Genesis 39:9 - Additional Comments
Again, Joseph showed his relationship to God, in that this was not just an offense to his master, but also a sin to God. He asks how can I sin against God? He cannot, if he has the right relationship with God - see the notes on 1 John 3:9.
We need to see sin as sin, as vile, detestable, abhorrent (Romans 7:13). You don't eat foods you detest, you don't visit places you detest, you shouldn't act in ways you detest. The problem is you don't detest your sin. In fact, these are things you want. We need to detest sin (e.g. spanking Brian in anger), for it "wages war against the soul" (1 Pet 2:11).
