Why Goshen? Fertile land near Nile, great for livestock and planting, also provided a great distance from Pharaoh's people.
Another reason - there was to be no intermingling and no socializing with the Egyptians, but God still wanted them to remain a separate people.
Plus, Joseph knew they would not stay there forever, as God has given Canaan to them as the promised land. They would be returning there some day.
