Hebrews 11:1 - Additional Comments
Faith and hope go together. The same things that are the objects of our hope are the objects of our faith. Hope - The desire of something together with the expectation of obtaining it. Faith - The trust that God is steadfast (faithful (worthy of our faith), never changing, makes all things work for our good).
We decide to trust God, and He is faithful (see notes on Gen 6:22). We know He is trustworthy, so we decide to rely on Him. But we must get this faith from Him.
People struggle to have faith. How do you increase your faith? Not by desiring the faith itself, although you can pray that God would increase your faith (Luke 17:5). God is the author of all of our faith (Heb 12:2). Faith is a response to trusting God and seeing God work, both in His word and in our lives (Rom 10:17). The more we see God work, the more our faith increases. Get involved in God's work, where He is headed, and you will see Him work. Each time you see Him work, in bigger and bigger ways, your faith will be increased.
