James 5:7

Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain.

The Christian walk is a long race. It is not a sprint, but a marathon, and iron man marathon.
Heb 12:1-2 tells us to "lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us".
Gal 6:9 tells us to "not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart."
You can run anaerobically or aerobically. The first, you are using up oxygen, and will tire and have to stop. The latter, maintains a pace that you can continue in for the long haul.
We are to "establish our hearts" (vs 8) - build up a runners heart in spiritual matters.
Are you running? How hard? Enough to make progress? Yet, not too much to burn out?
Phil 3:14 "I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus."
Examine your walk with God. Press forward in a run, if you are not, but pace yourself.
So, one day, we can say with Paul (2 Tim 4:7), "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith."
And wow, when we endure, we will be counted among the blessed (vs 11). What a great promise. The prize is worth the race!!
