Critics were imprisoned or murdered. The prophet Uriah was murdered, and Jeremiah was forced into hiding. Once Babylon's Nebuchadnessar defeated Neco, Jehoiakim was reduced to a puppet-king under Babylon (2 Kings 24:1). He rashly rebelled, and Nebuchadnessar returned to seize Jerusalem. His died soon afterwards.
