Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Hearken not unto the words of the prophets that prophesy unto you: they make you vain: they speak a vision of their own heart, and not out of the mouth of the LORD.

Verses 16-17 - Some of God's many complaints against Judah - the words from the prophets are not at all what God wanted them to say. The words from the prophets should be words to lift them up and give them value, but following the words of the prophets actually make them worthless, failures. The prophets are speaking their own words, not God's. In fact, they promise good results like peace and freedom from evil (vs 17), but the opposite will be the actual results.
