What do we know about Job?
- He was from Uz - we don't know the exact location of Uz.
- He was a man of God - he feared God
- He was a Gentile (for there was yet no Jewish nation)
- He was blameless and upright, avoiding evil - not perfect, but in view of God and man had a heart of integrity, honesty, loyalty
- He knew about God from tradition, for there was yet no written law
- He was married and had 10 children - 7 sons and 3 daughters
- He had a close family (vs 4)
- He cared about the spiritual health of his family (vs 5)
- He was wealthy (vs 3-4)
- He was highly esteemed among people, "the greatest of all the people in the East" (vs 3)
