John 4:48

Here it appears Jesus is not addressing the nobleman, but all those there who believed only because of the miracle they had seen. See verse 45. The nobleman was probably the same, so even though Jesus was addressing the nobleman, He was speaking to all who believed this way.
Jesus was rebuking them because they were only interested in the miracles, not in the purpose for the miracles, meaning repentance and going to Jesus as the Messiah.
Even though the world honored this man for his position, yet Jesus was not afraid to reprove him. See how in the next verse the nobleman mostly rejects the reproof because of his single-minded focus on getting his child healed.
Jesus did not have an intimate relationship with him before He reproved him. This man was a stranger to Jesus. Are you able to reprove? Can we practically reprove? Who can we reprove?
What did the people seek? Was it miracles, or, once they realized who Jesus was, the teachings? See 1 Cor 14:22. Those that seek only miracles are said to be unbelievers. By Jesus statement here, we can discern that these people probably had not accepted Him as the Messiah -- they were just there to see the miracles, not understanding the purpose for the miracles. Jesus did not give in to their desires, because it was fruitless -- so they saw no miracle here (even though one occurred) (verse 54 says this is only the second miracle of Jesus in Galilee, so they did not get to see any others).
This shows that Jesus' miracles are not available to everyone.
