They want the bread. To get the bread, they must receive it. And the same for eternal life, this bread Jesus offers -- we must receive it, and that is done by believing in Him (vs 35). And how should we receive it? We should hunger and thirst for it. See Matt 5:6, Psa 37:4, Matt 6:33.
