Joshua 6:20

So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

Not only did the falling of the wall leave the people of Jericho vulnerable, but since that was their proud defense, it also left them so dispirited that they did not resist the army of Israel.
God used this method so it was very clear who gave the victory. God acts so He can be clearly seen and praised.
God expects His people to obey His commands, even if they don't understand all the reasons for His commands.
God may ask us to do things that don't make sense, at least to our limited view of things, but they give us success:
- God told Israel to cross the Red Sea, and later the Jordon.
- God told the blind man to wash in the pool - John 9:7
- Do good to those who hate you and abuse you - Luke 6:27-33
- When you lend, expect nothing in return - Luke 6:34-35
- Send David into battle against Goliath - 1 Sam 17:37
- In everything rejoice and give thanks - 1 Thess 5:16-18
- Do not store up manna beyond that day - Exo 16:19-20
