There were no strong spiritual leaders in that day, so God sends Deborah to lead them - to save them from 25 years of suffering at the hand of a nearby, hostile king.
Deborah had 3 roles:
- Prophetess- she was close to the Lord and received messages from Him for the people.
- Wife, to husband Lapidoth
- Judge- people would bring her their disputes and ask her to settle their legal cases. She also handled injustice against the entire nation.
