Luke 1:20 - Additional Comments

Zacharias didn't believe what Gabriel had said, so God showed him by making him mute. Now, remember what state Zacharias was in - he was fully righteous and obedient to God's laws (verse 6). Yet, he did not have the faith to believe Gabriel. Pity any one of us in that same situation! We humans flat out cannot get ourselves to trust God for things to happen beyond what our world normally brings us - the disciples never seemed to expect what Jesus could do (e.g. Mark 4:41). As difficult as it is for us, we should expect that God can perform miracles, and that He does. What miracle do you need? (Expect God's timing may not be what we expect - certainly not what Zacharias had expected!).
