They did not want to learn if He was the Christ, they only wanted to hear it from His lips so they could condemn Him. Never did they imagine that this beaten person before them could actually be the King, the Messiah they were waiting for, to come and reign with them. Yes, Jesus knew their hearts, that they would not believe. But, He does admit to being the Son of God (vs 70).
